WAYNE G. MILLER
Executive Secretary of Forest Farmers Association And Prominent Citizen of Valdosta
Passes in Washington Hospital.
Valdostans were shocked and grieved to learn today of the death of Wayne Griffith
Miller, 51 , executive secretary of the Forest Farmers Association and prominent
citizen of this community, who passed away in the Mt. Alto Veterans Bureau Hospital
in Washington D.C. , early this morning. He had been confined to the hospital
following a sudden attack of illness about three weeks ago , and was believed
to be recovering satisfactorily until about three days ago.
Mr. Miller was a man of wide interests and talents, one who made a lasting friendship
wherever he went , by his friendly and sincere interest in other people. He
was a vestryman of Christ Episcopal Church , Valdosta , a member of Valdosta
Post No. 13 of the American Legion and of the Forty and Eight.
He was born in Montpelier , Ohio , a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Franklin schultz
Miller. He attended Wabash College in Indiana before entering the service in
World War I. He was on the staff of the Cleveland Plain Dealer and later held
a responsible position with the Christian Herald Magazine in New York and also
edited the Homiletic Review.
In 1934 , the Miller family moved to Kissimmee , Florida , where Mr. Miller
was connected with the Kissimmee Gazette. From 1937 to 1941 he was the secretary
of Commerce at Lake City , Florida. He came to Valdosta with the Forest Framers
association in July 1941.
Mr. Miller leaves his wife, who before her marriage was Miss Irene Rogers of
Mexico, Missouri, four children , David , a student at the University of Georgia,
Athens: Martha Jane , Franklin and Jonathan ,who attend Valdosta High School
, also one brother A.L.Miller of Seattle Washington.
Funeral arrangements were incomplete at the hour of going to press this afternoon.
